Body Whispers: Are you listening?
Your body is telling you what it needs but are you listening?
Our bodies have a way of speaking to us—small signs and ‘whispers' that hint at underlying needs. But are we paying attention? Most of the time, these clues go unnoticed or are ignored, symptoms are brushed aside by quick fixes and over-the-counter solutions which may mask or suppress symptoms but they don’t address the root causes of these ‘minor’ symptoms or ‘whispers’.
The Clues We Often Ignore
Your body’s ‘whispers’ may be a recurrent headache, dry skin, fungal infections, or frequent colds. In response, it’s easy to reach for a painkiller, a cream, or a cold remedy. Maybe you have a slump in energy in the afternoon, and fix this using caffeine or a sweet treat; or do you have bloating after a meal, or heartburn (reflux) and your solution may be grab something from the chemist to help ease these symptoms?
However, while these remedies might provide temporary relief, they only suppress the symptoms, allowing underlying issues to persist and potentially worsen, without ever truly identifying and resolving the cause.
One Whisper leads to your body talking a little louder
So what if that headache was giving you a clue…. that you are constantly dehydrated, and the next symptom or message that you are given is a urinary tract infection ….this one now make take you to the pharmacy or the GP, you may need antibiotics for this one. Soon after you may be dealing with some gut problems - diarrhoea or constipation, as the antibiotics can disrupt the ‘eco balance’ of the bacterial microbiome we have throughout our digestive system.
Do you take another over the counter remedy to try and mask this symptom too…?
Are You Waiting Until It Shouts?
So do you listen when your body is ‘whispering’ or ‘talking’ to you, or are you going to wait until it really ‘shouts' at you? Waiting until symptoms become more severe often means stronger interventions, like prescription drugs, along with all the side effects; or maybe even a more severe health crisis. But what if there was a way to listen to these ‘whispers’ and take preventative steps?
Tuning Into Your Body’s Needs
Let me listen to your story. During a nutrition consultation, my role is to help you recognise and interpret these signals before they become bigger issues. As we go through the consultation I will ask you a wide range of questions—some might even surprise you! Each question is carefully designed to assess different body systems (cardiovascular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory, etc.) and to help identify areas that might need support. This thorough process often highlights subtle symptoms that you may not have connected with your primary health concerns, allowing us to catch these ‘whispers’ early.
Developing Your Unique and Personalised Health Plan
Together, we will explore your entire health history, from birth onwards. By connecting this background with your symptoms—both minor and major: the ‘whispers’, the ‘talking, the ‘shouting'—I can gain insight into areas of your body that may be ‘asking’ for support. To build a complete picture, we will also review your food diary, daily habits, and dietary preferences, taking into account any intolerances or allergies.
If you have recent blood test results, these can provide additional insight into the picture of your current health. I may also suggest further testing, such as blood tests or stool testing, hormone tests.
This comprehensive picture of information then guides me in designing a customised plan for you, recommending specific food groups, foods rich in essential nutrients, or supplements that may support your health goals. We will also identify foods or drinks that may not be serving your health and consider reducing or removing them from your diet temporarily or permanently. This isn’t about restrictive dieting; it’s about making sustainable choices that support your long-term health and work within your lifestyle.
